about Nefesh Mountain

Nefesh Mountain is the place where the Jewish spirit and soul meet with Bluegrass and Old-Time music. Husband and Wife team Eric Lindberg & Doni Zasloff are pioneering this blend of Jewish Americana throughout the country, bringing their unique knowledge and passion for both Jewish and Bluegrass traditions to the fore, singing English and Hebrew songs alike. Their songs and spirituals draw from the beautiful depths of Jewish culture, illuminated with the timeless sounds of Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Fiddle, Bass, & Dobro.

"What seems initially to be a curious novelty combining bluegrass and traditional Jewish music, turns out to be an idea that makes absolute sense…The union is a perfect fit… It took matchmakers Nefesh Mountain to get these two together, and we’re thankful they did."

Bluegrass Today Quote

“A highly-effective blend of these two spheres… only rarely have we heard a prominent Jewish counterpoint to the gospel music that has been a part of bluegrass since Bill Monroe’s earliest recordings.”

Hanukkah Tribute To Woody Guthrie

This holiday season we are so excited to release this pairing of songs written by the great Okie troubadour, Woody Guthrie. Woody moved to Coney Island in 1942 and spent much of his time learning from and collaborating with his Jewish mother in law and yiddish poet Aliza Greenblatt. He identified with the stories and hardships of the Jewish people inspiring him to write these unique and powerful poems and songs. Though these works and Jewish writings were little known at the time, their rediscovery by his daughter Nora Guthrie paints a fuller picture of Woody as a writer, social activist, and humanitarian.
