ABOUT NEFESH MOUNTAIN
Since the formation of Nefesh Mountain nearly a decade ago, Zasloff and Lindberg have been proudly open and vocal about their background and heritage as Jewish Americans. They are among the very first preeminent and largely secular Americana / Bluegrass bands to infuse Jewish tradition and soul into the beautifully diverse tapestry of American roots music, illuminating the understanding that Judaism is a cultural and ethnic identity as well as a spiritual and religious practice. Their music is wholly American, freely expressing their own identities while at the same time addressing the hate, discrimination, anti-semitism and racism that still remains at large in America and the World today. One of the primary tenets that drives them, their music, band and live performances is Tukkun Olam, and the unwavering belief that Music, as well asconscious act spreading of love, light, and hope can help repair the fractured world around us.
Called “a powerhouse unit” by Rolling Stone and praised for their “introspective lyrics and world-class musicianship” by American Songwriter, Nefesh Mountain is a trailblazing band at the intersection of Americana, bluegrass, and Jewish spirit. They’ve been featured in Billboard Magazine, NPR’s Weekend Edition, BBC World News, Vintage Guitar Magazine, No Depression, The Bluegrass Situation, Bluegrass Today, Bluegrass Standard, Times of Israel, Hey Alma, and more. Their latest album, Beacons, has charted on the Roots Music Report’s Top Albums for over 20 consecutive weeks, including a #1 spot on the Bluegrass Charts.
Their latest album, Beacons, has been met with widespread acclaim. American Songwriter writes, “On Beacons, Nefesh Mountain delivers some of their most moving and spiritual material to date — a fearless fusion of folk, bluegrass, and social consciousness.” and Bluegrass Today said about their newest album, “Nefesh Mountain has scaled a new summit”.
Nefesh Mountain performs over 150 concerts annually around the world, from the U.S. to Israel, England, Hong Kong, Australia, and Canada. In 2021, they made their debut at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and have played at hundreds of synagogues, JCCs, Jewish day schools, and camps across the country. They performed at Mountain Stage, and music festivals like Merlefest, Red Wing Roots, Walnut Valley, Wintergrass, Kaw River Roots, Thomas Point Bluegrass, Ossipee Valley, Ashkenaz (Toronto), and Shir Madness (Sydney) to name a few. They’ve been featured on SiriusXM’s Bluegrass Junction, Woodsongs Radio Hour, and PBS has aired multiple concert specials including “Love and Light Live from Levon Helm Studios” and “Live from Greenspace NYC with John Schaefer”. Their 2024 concert, filmed at Caramoor, will premiere on PBS Stations and PBS online in 2025.
The band has also been Showcase Artists at conferences including Folk Alliance International, AmericanaFest, the International Bluegrass Music Association, URJ Biennial, NewCaje, Aleph Kallah, SLBC, Reconstructing Judaism Conference. Federation, WRJ, and Hadassah conferences and more.
Eric Lindberg is a sponsored artist with Bourgeois Guitars, Deering Banjos, and Thompson Guitars.
Lastly, coming in 2027, the band’s journey takes the spotlight in the forthcoming documentary entitled “We Sing Nonetheless” directed and produced by Emmy Award Winging Filmakers from The Upstander Project which is a deeply personal film chronicling Nefesh Mountain’s story exploring themes of identity, resilience, and the unifying power of music in a divided world.
